la negociación y producción del "buen" ("legal") y el "mal" ("ilegal") migrante entre los brasileños en Londres

Resumen

: El artículo explora el papel del Estado en la negociación y producción de diferencias en un “mundo en movimiento”. En particular, considera las consecuencias de la división binaria de migrantes “legales” e “ilegales” en la forma en que los brasileños estructuran sus vidas en la ciudad de Londres, tanto a nivel material como simbólico. Aunque el discurso de la política de inmigración suele homogeneizar al "inmigrante" como figura simbólica frente al “ciudadano”, las políticas de inmigración también sirven para dividir a los inmigrantes en diferentes tipos de actores según sus motivaciones para entrar en el país (estudiante, reagrupación familiar, refugiado, trabajador temporal, inmigrante altamente cualificado, etc.), o según su estatus legal (“legal”/ “ilegal”). Estas categorías administrativas de la inmigración se toman a menudo como naturales, neutrales y meramente descriptivas, reflejando la identidad de la persona (el “ilegal”) en lugar de replantear y dar forma a determinados tipos de relaciones. Además, las categorías empleadas por el Estado para sus propios fines administrativos son volátiles y no se corresponden con la realidad de la vida de las personas que se desplazan. Sin embargo, estas categorías repercuten en la forma en que las personas pueden vivir y planificar sus vidas, cuáles son sus derechos, cómo se imaginan a sí mismas y qué formas de socialidades construyen en su vida cotidiana. El artículo se basa en una investigación empírica que combina una etnografía de 18 meses en locales de ocio con 33 entrevistas en profundidad con brasileños en Londres.
