Lulu in Brazil
The Imaginary Built around the Cinema Reception
Keywords:
Louise Brooks, Silent movie, Spectatorship, Brazilian press, Social imaginaryAbstract
This work investigates the reception of the Brazilian press from the second half of
the 1920s in relation to Louise Brooks, a silent film actress with a rising career whose public
life was troubled. The analysis sought to understand the relationship between society and
cinema within that historical-cultural context, and the forms of cinematic spectatorship and
criticism promote developments in the social imaginary.
