a negociação e produção do "bom" ("legal") e o "mau" ("ilegal") migrante entre os brasileiros em Londres

Resumo

O artigo explora o papel do Estado na negociação e na produção de diferenças em um “mundo em movimento” (world on the move). Considera, em particular, as consequências da divisão binária migrante “legal” e “ilegal” no modo como brasileiros estruturam suas vidas na cidade de Londres, nos níveis materiais e simbólicos. Apesar do discurso político sobre imigração frequentemente homogeneizar o “migrante” enquanto uma figura simbólica em oposição ao “cidadão”, as políticas de imigração também servem para dividir os imigrantes em diferentes tipos de atores em função das suas motivações de entrada no país (estudante, reunião familiar, refugiado, trabalhador temporário, imigrante altamente qualificado, etc.), ou ainda por status legal (“legal”/ “ilegal”). Essas categorias administrativas da imigração são frequentemente tomadas como naturais, neutras e meramente descritivas, refletindo a identidade da pessoa (o “ilegal”), em vez de refencializar e moldar tipos particulares de relação. Além disso, as categorias empregadas pelo Estado para seus próprios fins administrativos são voláteis e não correspondem à realidade das vidas das pessoas que se mudam. No entanto, essas categorias impactam em como as pessoas podem viver e planejar suas vidas, quais são seus direitos, como se imaginam e que formas de socialidades constroem em seu cotidiano. O artigo baseia-se em pesquisa empírica que combina uma etnografia de 18 meses em locais de lazer com 33 entrevistas em profundidade com brasileiros em Londres.
